The Mazda’s are your best bet. VW’s are crap anymore, they haven’t made a quality vehicle in 2 decades, if you don’t believe me, take a look over in the VW forums… terrible cars. The BMW is nice, but could be hit or miss on reliability, and it already has 48k miles and is 5 years old…. sounds like a lot for a vehicle that could cost a LOT in repairs.
The Mazda’s are all pretty decent, relatively cheap on insurance.

The best would be the bmw but when it comes to reliability it has to be the jetta or mazda 5,6.

Mazda is most reliable. BMW and Jetta, not so much. Jetta is the best deal, you will be much happier with a newish Jetta than an old crappy Bimmer. VW owns Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Buggati, and others, so they understand quality. It is a much better car than a BMW. The BMW is not under warrenty, and it will be a pain to fix when it breaks down, constantly.

As "cool" as a BMW is, it is actually not anything spectacular. Yes, it is a tier 1 vehicle, but compared to Audi and Mercedes, the average BMW driver makes less annually and has a lower education level.

You will be much much happier with a jetta rather an a dated, old, looking BMW.

A Mazda would definitely be the most reliable out of the three. The Jetta is under warranty and all but from my own personal experience, Volkswagens aren’t particularly reliable and the dealership service is horrible. They are nice, fun, good-looking cars though. The BMW sounds very appealing, and if it’s been properly cared for it will be every bit as reliable as a Mazda. However, if it’s previous owner wasn’t fastidious on the maintenance, it could be a total lemon. Take a look at that Bimmer, have a BMW certified mechanic look at it, look at all of the service records and make sure NOTHING is out of place. If everything looks perfect, get the BMW and maintain it as you properly should. They include a service booklet so you know exactly when to get it serviced and what needs to be done so there aren’t any surprises. If you take good care of a BMW, it’ll last forever and it’ll be a lot more fun and satisfying than a Mazda or Volkswagen.
